A Complete Range of Appraisal Services

Skinner Offers a Complete Range of appraisal services to individuals, institutions, banks, law firms, estate exacutors and their clients.  Obtaining a Skinner appraisal of any kind does not place you under an obligation to auction the property at Skinner.

Written Appraisals
Written Appraisals are available for a fee and are important for estate planning, carrying appropriate insurance coverage, determining family distribution and gifting, and donating for tax purposes.  While Skinner offers auction estimates at no charge, written appraisals are subject to a fee. Up to two years from the appraisal date, a rebate may be provided to individuals who consign the appraised property at a Skinner auction.

Skinner's written appraisal services include:

--Fair Market Value Appraisals
--Replacement Value Appraisals

Fair Market Value Appraisals reflect the realistic resale value of property from a willing seller to a willing buyer, with both parties having a general knowledge of the market. Fair Market Value Appraisals are often done for estate tax purposes, pre-estate planning, equitable distribution, or tax-deductible donations.

Replacement Value Appraisals are written for insurance coverage and are intended to reflect retail replacement value. Insurance appraisals include a description of each object, including the medium, size, country of origin, and artist. This description is an important identification tool in the event of loss or damage.

Appraisals can be conducted at our galleries in Boston's Back Bay or Marlborough, Massachusetts, or appraisers can visit locations worldwide. If you are interested in a written appraisal, please call 508-970-3299 or email appraisals@skinnerinc.com.

Auction Estimates
An auction estimate is a verbal opinion of value given free of charge by Skinner appraisers. Appointments to bring items to the Skinner galleries in Boston or Marlborough, Massachusetts, can be made by telephone. Depending on the item(s), Skinner appraisers are available to travel worldwide. Auction estimates can also be obtained by sending photographs via U.S. mail, uploading images via our website or digital images via email to evaluations@skinnerinc.com. Please include with your image a description of the item, including measurements or other relevant details, such as marks, signature, condition, and history.
